The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) is pleased to announce a partnership with the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Bundesministerium f\u00fcr Bildung und Forschung) to fund collaborative research projects on hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. Hydrogen is a versatile fuel that can be produced from many sources and act as an energy carrier. Hydrogen fuel cells produce only electricity, water and heat, no emissions. When the hydrogen they contain comes from renewable sources, hydrogen fuel cells are a zero-emission energy solution that can be scaled up and used for many applications: vehicle propulsion, heating buildings and water in communities, heating industrial facilities and process heat generation, and providing energy for remote sites as well as backup and critical applications. <\/p>\n\n

Canada and Germany have a long-standing collaboration in science and technology. The Agreement between the Government of Canada and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany on Scientific and Technical Cooperation, signed at Bonn on April 16, 1971, forms the basis of the proposed initiative. The funding program is for one-year collaborative projects between Canadian academic researchers and German researchers working at federal universities or research institutes. These projects are expected to lay the groundwork for long-term collaborations to support the development and deployment of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. More information on the call for proposals will be communicated in the coming months. In the meantime, we invite Canadian university researchers to reach out to their German counterparts in anticipation of the launch of the initiative. <\/p>\n\n
