Axis 2 – Intelligent management of stationary systems

Stationary power systems are at the heart of this research area. Modernizing the electrical grid requires adding intelligence at multiple levels. We are addressing aspects related to transactional energy and power management, as well as the optimization of distribution network operations; decentralized generation and storage and their optimal integration and management within the distribution network; and energy efficiency and intelligent demand management in buildings, including the management of grid-connected electric vehicles. Studying integrated, multi-level grid management will improve its performance, reliability, and availability. In remote communities, energy stored in various forms (electrical, thermal, hydrogen) will power smart microgrids to compensate for the intermittency of renewable energy sources.
