Power-to-X is the conversion of electricity, considered as primary energy, into an energy carrier. As Michael Sterner, a professor at the University of Regensburg (Germany), writes: “It’s an umbrella term for different ways of generating energy – power-to-gas, power-to-liquid, power-to-chemicals and power-to-heat.” The X therefore represents a variety of products, processes, technologies and applications.
