Ursula Eicker
Professor Ursula Eicker has been awarded the Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Smart, Sustainable and Resilient Communities and Cities at Concordia University in Montreal. She is a German physicist who has coordinated numerous international research projects in the fields of energy efficiency in buildings and green energy supply systems.
Since June 2019, Dr. Eicker has been leading an ambitious research program focused on developing transformative strategies for the decarbonization of cities. This seven-year program is subsidized to the tune of $10,000,000 by the Canadian government; it also receives $10,000,000 in funding from Concordia University. The institution has invested in the formation of a research cluster on cities, with five professorships in building engineering, electrical engineering, biodiversity, philosophy and planning. Analyzing the issues related to urban transformation through a transdisciplinary approach, Concordia’s Next Generation Cities Research Group develops tools and strategies for a sustainable future.
In addition to contributing to 25 books, Dr. Eicker has published seven books, 128 peer-reviewed articles and 335 conference presentations.
